Yes, a lot of homeowners prefer to install Water Softeners outside to save room inside the home, but you must keep in mind that if it is installed outside then it is subject to the elements, so it is recommended that you install a Water Softener Enclosure.

Water Heater sizes are typically based on the amount of people living in the home. A general Rule of thumb is 1-3 people need a 40 to 50 Gallon tank and 3 or more people need a 50 to 75 gallon tank. This isn't a perfect rule as the amount of devices that use hot water also impacts the size. Either your drain valve or tank itself is leaking. If it's the drain valve then that can be replaced, but if it's the tank itself then this calls for a new water heater.
